Coast & Castle Relay
In June 2016 Evenwood Road Runners attempted another relay challenge this year the Coast & Castle route from Edinburgh to Newcastle. Beginning in Edinburgh on the afternoon of Friday June 24th and running continuously until finishing in Newcastle on Saturday evening 27 hours later. The route follows the coast and castles cycle route starting at Edinburgh Castle heading down the royal mile then towards the coast at Musselburgh. Once we hit the coast the route takes us towards Dunbar and then heading south before crossing into England and through Berwick. As we continued our way down the coast we passed famous castles at Bamburgh and Warkworth along with many others before finishing in Newcastle. We ran approx 170 miles with the each runner completing legs of between 5 and 14 miles. Each leg was run by 2 runners of a similar ability and involved the majority of the running club. As we were nearing the finish every member that took part in the chellenge ran the last 4 miles as we entered the Newcastle Quayside as one big group. We were raising money for 2 charities The Great North Air Ambulance & The North of England Childrens Cancer Research and raised £5,621 which was split evenly between the 2 charities
